TENTMAKING

TENTMAKING: “refers to the activities of any Christian who, while dedicating him or herself to the ministry of the Gospel, receives little or no pay for Church work, but performs other ("tentmaking") jobs to provide support.” (Wikipedia)

Ministry in the West has become a “professional career”, costing the church millions, and producing results far inferior to the 3rd world - where the church grows exponentially. Maybe our “professionalized” model of training and paying “clergy” has come to a dead end. It’s in light of these trends that the Tentmaker’s Institute (TI) hopes to fill a void. TI intends to train a generation of leaders who “earn their primary livings” in ways other than clerical employment. This requires a sense of call that sees the marketplace as the arena for missionary work in America. Through tutorials, mentoring, and tent-maker training, TI aspires to release thousands of “tent-making” missionaries into the harvest fields of 21st Century America.
